Henri-Alexis Schaeffer was a French designer, caricaturist, decorator and painter.

Born August 9, 1900 in Paris, at the age of 19, he lived in Viroflay. He studied arts and was one of Fernand Cormon's pupils at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. On September 15, 1921 in Sèvres, Henri-Alexis Schaeffer married Olga Toussaint, also a young artist (poet, designer and painter).

In 1951, he moved to Ile Rousse, in the north of Corsica, where he decorated the walls of the Chevallier family's inn-restaurant, where he painted this scene and other various landscapes of the island.
