An Anshelm Dahl peaceful mid-century sunset coastal landscape of the Swedish countryside. This oil on canvas painting circa 1940 is a high quality example of the artist's work. Signe in the bottom left corner, this painting is in very good condition and is presented in a wood frame of the late 20th century.
The artist's real name is Johan Anshelm Walerian Wiedh. Born on 8, April 1897 in Stockholm, he studied with his father Leonard and with Carl Wilhelmson and Frans Wilhelm Odelmark in 1918. Dahl is primarily known for his marine paintings often of the Gullmarn / Gullmarsfjorden, north of Gothenburg. He took part in the exhibitions at Arfvedssons Konsthandel in Stockholm. He had solo exhibitions in Östersund 1936 and Örebro 1941.
Wiedh, died in 1964, was very productive and, under the signature Anshelm Dahl, produced realistic seascapes and seasonally coloured atmospheric motifs from the west coast, but he also depicted the forest landscapes of small cottages and lakes.
